(no subject)

It was a hell of a day.

The ladies had a grand adventure chasing down Oscar and accidentally zombies, and the guys nearly got murdered by an eldritch horror. Again.

So now the dudes have to rest because going to the super-dangerous mines when tired is a terrible idea.

They've got a day or two to kill, so this is for what happens while the guys (mostly Malcer because holy fuck dude) are recovering.

Maybe it was because of her own family-centric upbringing, but Naeris always perked up at least a little whenever someone in the party brought up their relatives. There's always something to be learned in those conversations, whether it's about said person's background or little hints of what kind of environment sculpted them into the person they are today.

So, she perks up even more, takes a bite of her brownie, chews it thoughtfully, and then asks the real hard-hitting questions.

"Did Navarra also teach you how to appreciate the outdoors? Oh, oh! Did you have swamp picnics with her?"

Nin smiles when Naeris perks up and starts asking questions about her mother. That's the sweet and cheerful Naeris she's come to know.

"Well, she's the druid who taught me how to druid, so I suppose you could say she passed on her love of the natural world to me." Then she makes a face, and laughs. "Swamp picnics were not, and probably never will be, a thing, though. The ground is just a little too soggy, even with a blanket. We almost always ate our meals outdoors, though." Her smile fades from one of amusement at the idea of a swamp picnic to one of warm nostalgia. "There's a small permanent community in Murkwater, and they live in and on a cluster of mangrove trees deep in the swamp. The trees go on for miles, and are hundreds of feet tall, and their great boughs tangle together where they meet in the sky, and shelter those living under them. Almost everything is done on the platforms built near those branches, including eating. Not exactly a picnic, but maybe close."

"That's amazing!"

Just imagining sitting up high enough to see every little thing going on below is dizzying, but the very idea of sharing that experience with friends and family--every day, no less!--is enough to offset any uneasiness. But that still begs one very important question.

"Wait--has anyone ever fallen off?"
